Best SSD Cloud Server
Faster, more robust, lighter, more economical: SSD is regarded as the storage technology of the future. The abbreviation SSD stands for “Solid State Disk” or “Solid State Drive”. This is a flash memory technology that will replace the conventional hard disk in the long run.
SSD drives are installed and addressed in the computer just like magnetic hard disks. With an SSD, however, the information is stored on flash devices, a “non-volatile mass storage device” that can also be found, for example, on USB sticks or MP3 players.
In this case, non-volatile means that the memory does not have to be continuously supplied with power in order to retain the stored data. In other words, a computer with an SSD drive can simply be switched off without losing any data.
SSD – Optimal For Mobile Use
SSDs do without moving parts. The storage process is purely electronic. In contrast to conventional memory disks, the sensitive motor mounting and read/write mechanism are eliminated.
Result: SSDs have a high mechanical robustness and can also cope with falls and impacts. This is a major advantage for use in mobile devices such as notebooks. Added to this are short access times, silent operation, less weight and comparatively low energy consumption.
SSD Hard Disk At Web Hosting – What Are The Advantages?
More and more often you can read something about SSD hard disks at hosting offers.
What it has to offer and what speed advantages an SSD brings, you will find out in the following.
Even today, HD hard disks are normally used in a server. These are known from the PC. On rotating disks a read head reads and writes the data.
SSD hard disks, on the other hand, are no longer hard disks. There are no moving parts built in, but these Solid State Drives are based instead either on Flash or on SDRAM components.
These are very fast and are used by hosters particularly gladly for the database servers, because these profit particularly well from the performance advantages.
But there are also complete hosting offers with SSD storage, where also the other data (files, pictures …) are stored.
What Are The Advantages Of SSD?
Above all the speed advantage is to be mentioned here. SSDs are much faster than HD hard disks because they simply offer faster data throughput.
According to some hosting companies, the SSD offers up to ten times faster database performance. Others at least speak of three times the performance of databases when using SSD hard disks.
In addition, the SSDs are more robust and quieter, although the latter is less important for hosting. But the energy requirement is also lower, at least for Flash-based SSDs, and the heat generation is also lower. For the environment this is of course a plus.
Unfortunately, SSDs also have the disadvantage that they usually offer less space, since SSDs are still significantly more expensive than conventional hard disks.
Are SSDs Worth It At Hosting?
Sometimes the SSD option costs additional money, but often it is already included in the current tariffs. However, this usually only applies to vServers, Managed Servers and Root Servers. With normal shared hosting, this does not yet exist.
SSDs are always worthwhile if the loading time is particularly important. It offers a welcome improvement. SSD disks are especially worthwhile for dynamic websites with a large database.
With small websites or static websites the advantage is then rather small and then the question arises whether it is really necessary.
Conclusion
I am very satisfied with the database acceleration of my servers and vServers by the SSD hard disks. This has had a positive effect on the performance of the larger websites.
Even large projects now run fast and without problems. In the past there were problems from time to time.
However, an SSD hard disk is still not mandatory. Especially with smaller projects you don’t notice a big difference and the additional costs are not necessary.
